It is now possible to manufacture eddy current sensors that are extremely temperature stable with very low thermal expansion or drift; <20ppm/K temperature error is typically achievable with temperature error coefficients as low as 0.5ppm/k also already in use!
Another significant advantage of this technology is the ability to manufacture eddy current sensors with high operating temperatures. Currently, upto 350°C working temperature range is available.
Also, with the development of miniature drive circuit electronics, it is now possible to manufacture the sensor with integrated electronics into the sensor head, creating a single or multiple sensor channel arrangement in one sensor body. Their is now virtually unlimited scope in the shape and mechanical design of the sensor.
Successful Applications:
• Alignment of mirror segments on giant optical telescopes
• Semiconductor manufacture in ultra high vacuums
• Measurement of grinding gap on refiners used in paper mills
