Eddy current sensors from Micro-Epsilon are often used in applications where harsh ambient conditions are present and where maximum precision is required. Immunity to dirt, pressure and extreme temperature are key performance features. The sensors even operate in high speed processes, detecting oscillations and vibrations using a maximum frequency response of 100 kHz (-3dB).
Eddy current sensors measure electrically conductive targets (ferrous/non-ferrous). For this reason dust, dirt and oil/liquids do not affect the sensor measurement. This fact, combined with the sensor’s robust, temperature-compensated mechanical design, enable measurements in harsh, industrial environments.
The high precision measurement results provided by sensors can be influenced by fluctuating temperatures. However, every eddy current measurement system from Micro-Epsilon is equipped with an active temperature compensation feature that reconciles any thermal influences.
Active temperature compensation of sensor, cable and controller
Requirements can occur where the standard versions of the sensors and the controller are performing at their limits or cannot be packaged into the application. In these instances, the eddy current systems can quite often be adapted according to customer specific requirements. Typical change requests include, modified sensor geometry or mounting methods, special target calibration (shape or material), modified cable lengths, specific measurement ranges, or sensors with integrated electronics.
