Glossary: Sensor

A sensor or measurement probe is a technical component which acquires certain physical and/or chemical properties of materials and outputs them as quantities for further processing. The output of a sensor supplies at least one electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic signal. In modern sensors signal conditioning is often integrated which eliminates disturbing Linearity errors or other effects right at the sensor. Sometimes the terms transducer, probe or measurement transmitter are used.
