Flexible strip thickness measurement

Thickness measurement in the production line for the metalworking sector is significantly easier with the new C-clamp measuring system. With a width of only 50 mm, the clamp can be integrated extremely easily into existing systems. New types of laser sensors in the optoNCDT LL series are mounted opposite each other on the micrometer. The use of these non-contact and emission-free sensors also makes possible very precise measurements on shiny metal surfaces. Both sensors measure the distance to the sheet surface from two sides. The exact sheet thickness is calculated from the two distance signals using a differential method. The acquired data are included for regulation of the production process or for quality control. A master part moves in the measuring gap automatically during the coil change and thus compensates the system completely automatically for new measurements for the calibration of the C-clamp. The particularly stable design makes possible a measurement depth of max. 1000 mm starting from the sheet edge. Due to the difference method for the thickness measurement, the sheet can also move within the measuring gap without falsifying the measurement results. The flexible concept makes it possible to connect several micrometers to only one evaluation unit which is particularly beneficial for multiple track measurements.
