Non-contact geometry inspection

The British company Cerulean provides various devices for use in production for the quality inspection of cigarettes. One of the latest developments concerns the geometry inspection using random sampling. A test item is inserted in the machine at the top where an automatic rotation mechanism lets the cigarette rotate. The inspection of circumference, diameter and ovality is then performed completely automatically. In doing so, the test items are measured with a digital micrometer from the optoCONTROL series. optoCONTROL functions according to the shadowing principle and is used generally for dimensional and position control.
