Celebrating its 45th anniversary this year, Micro-Epsilon has grown from a three-man operation to a global provider of high precision sensor technologies.
Since the company was founded in 1968, Micro-Epsilon development engineers have been setting new trends for high-precision sensors and measurement systems. The first digital measuring system, the smallest eddy-current sensor in the world, an automatic paint inspection system for automotive production, and temperature-resistant, robust embedded coil technology for capacitive and eddy-current sensors – the list goes on!
In 1968, Micro-Epsilon sold high-temperature sensors for the energy sector. An entrepreneurial urge quickly led to an expansion of the company to include development and manufacturing departments. Since then, technological highlights included the development of the first digital measuring system (1984), the smallest eddy current sensor in the world (1988), the first triangulation sensor (1992) and the world’s smallest confocal sensor (2006). From strength to strength, Micro-Epsilon introduced an automated paint inspection system for automotive production, as well as a flat, temperature-resistant coil (embedded-coil technology) for eddy-current and capacitive sensors. In 2012, Micro-Epsilon presented the spectral inline colour measurement system. And in the last few months, multicopters have been flying over PV solar installations, carrying ultra-lightweight infrared cameras from Micro-Epsilon.
In the company's research and development department at its main office in Ortenburg, Germany, numerous research collaborations and cooperation between engineers within the Group enable Micro-Epsilon to develop and manufacture sensors that are custom designed for a range of industry-specific applications – in addition to their extensive range of catalogued sensors. Sensors and measurement systems from Micro-Epsilon are used for automation, measurement, testing and monitoring purposes. The sensors are employed in test benches, production lines, R&D, and also directly in machines and test equipment. Solutions are sort for small businesses as well as large global players with small batched orders right up to high volume series production.
The family-run company has the slogan “More precision” which is applied across the whole business, products and services. “More precision” stands not only for the measurement accuracy and high quality of the products, but also applies to providing accurate, professional technical advice with service consultants taking into account the customer's technical and financial situation.
