LED testing of charging stations in aircraft cabins

The colorCONTROL MFA-14 LED analyzer is used to ensure that red and green status indicators in aircraft cabins are perceived consistently. The system measures colour and intensity directly on the LED display and reliably detects deviations within defined tolerances. This means that even the smallest differences in colour can be reliably detected, which can be noticeable across entire rows of seats in the cabin.

In practice, the colorCONTROL MFA-14 is part of end-of-line test devices – including at Loll Feinmechanik GmbH, which develops sockets and USB chargers for aircraft cabins. In addition to the electrical function, the LED status display is also objectively tested so that displays in each unit look identical. Up to 14 LEDs are checked simultaneously and precisely directly on the status display using MFS sensors. This means that every LED can be reliably evaluated and documented – even with changing designs and cramped installation conditions. Units outside the defined tolerances are rejected, while tested products with consistent colour quality are approved.

The colour measuring system records relevant measured variables such as colour values in common colour spaces (e.g. XYZ/xyY/RGB), the dominant wavelength (λdom) for unambiguous evaluation of the main emission component and the colour temperature (CCT). The colorCONTROL MFA-14 is suitable for automated test sequences in series production and evaluates LED displays objectively and reproducibly. This replaces or supports visual inspection, and the LED quality can be documented in a standardized manner.
