Measuring the Disc Thickness Variation
The capaNCDT DTV measuring system is used for precise measurement of brake disc thickness or Disc Thickness Variation (DTV) - on the test bench, in road tests or directly in the workshop. The measurement is performed using capacitive displacement sensors that detect the brake disc from both sides without contact. With a rotating brake disc, thickness deviations can be determined over the entire disc circumference. The use of several sensor pairs also enables multi-track thickness measurement. A robust sensor with four sensor measuring surfaces is available for this application, which enables synchronous detection of several measuring tracks.

Robust multi-channel sensor for test benches and road tests
The innovative CSH1,4FL multi-track sensor contains four capacitive sensors in one compact housing. This is how four tracks on the brake disc can be detected synchronously. Mirror-inverted sensor models mounted on the opposite sides of the brake disc enable accurate thickness measurement. A ceramic substrate protects the sensors from mechanical and thermal stress. This also ensures high temperature stability, enabling precise measurement results even in fluctuating ambient temperatures.
Combined with the DT6220 controller, four sensor channels can be configured and processed synchronously. Due to the high bandwidth, dynamic measurements up to 5 kHz (-3 dB) are possible. Data output is via an analogue output or a digital Ethernet/EtherCAT interface. An intuitive web interface enables fast and easy configuration of the sensor and the controller.
Mobile measuring case
The DTV measuring case enables quick and flexible measurement of the brake disc thickness or Disc Thickness Variation (DTV) directly on site. It contains a 2-channel controller including software licence, two capacitive sensors with cables and a mounting kit for easy installation. This enables precise thickness measurements on brake discs within a short time. The acquired DTV data can then be conveniently analyzed on a PC or notebook. The controller is enabled for the Disc Thickness Variation Measurement Software from Micro-Epsilon. Special functions make it possible to hide perforations in brake discs, while intelligent algorithms allow extensive evaluations, even without an additional encoder.
